My last Great Adventure was to the Keewenaw in January 2021. When I left my home, along the St Clair River, I had no idea where I would go, so took it mile by mile and day by day. Along the way I met some incredibly welcoming people and enjoyed the wintery beauty of the Lake Michigan shoreline and the Upper Peninsula. I knew it would be the last time I could drive any distance and am so thankful for the experience!

I was amazed one winter my son convinced our family to go snowshoeing in Tahquamenon State Park. I was afraid I'd be cold. After a while I wanted to remove my coat. I really did like doing it, I just don't take the time to do it.

Jim Stone Tom, you're just a troll.😁 I was raised using ketchup or, as they do in Cornwall, UK, Worcester sauce. My Grandfather was directly from there and worked the mines there and the Champion Mine in the UP. Kathy and her gang like gravy. Either one for me.

Loved it! I was born in Manistique, return a couple times a year to take my elder mom on road trips. One point to always note even now is that getting an up to date map and be prepared to not have cell, GPS navigation. The visitor center just across the bridge is worth a stop just to get updated information. There have been so many improvements such as restrooms, signage and roads. My grandfather extended the road around Gulliver Lake to build their summer cottage and my aunt/uncle loved it so they built a year round place next door.

Robert James Growing up, I only had homemade pasties and my mother would allow us kids to put ketchup on them. On a trip to my aunt’s house in the UP, she served pasties and when I asked for ketchup, I thought I would have to sit outside to eat. Now, if they are hot, I still use ketchup, but if I eat it cold, I eat it plain.

Yes I rented that cabin for a week. We paddle the Indian River past the campground. We also paddle several lakes over at Big Island Wilderness all because of your show. Also, did a river trip on Manistique. This year I’m the campground host at the mouth of the Two Hearted unit number two for the month of July.

It's been 50 years or so, but I did take a 2 or 3 canoe trip down the rifle with my brother and dad. The river wasn't nearly as developed and full of trout.

David W. Hart Use to go to Big Manistique Lake fishing every year when I was a kid with my parents and their good friends the Smits! Fishing was great and we ate a lot of fried perch and walleye and there was a bakery in Curtis so we always had fresh baked bread to go with our meals! Wonderful memories! In fact my wife and I just spent a night in our motorhome at Big Lake Resort on our way back home from Marquette.

Many great memories there with family and friends and also when I was a child down the road at the old greenfield resort, I forgot what it’s called now. I haven’t been able to go the last few years but I am hoping to go again!!!!!

Pamela D Dobbrastine-Young We vacationed there every year with aunt's, uncles and cousins. We stayed at Gordon's until everyone got campers then we went to what we called Big Manistique lake. It was a campground with a few cabins, I think it was called Vacationland or something like that. My dads Aunt Florence and Uncle Frank owned the roller skating rink and that is where I learned to skate with a few wipeouts! There were concerts on the weekends at the roller rink and I always wanted to go, but I was too young. Haven't been there in years and would love to go back.

Darrin Mifsud We spent 10 days there a few years back. Rented a cabin on the river. The diner was on one of the Michigan shows and remembered going there. We'd always sit in their parking lot for a half hour using their free wi-fi. It was also a nice base for exploring the east side. Everything you would want to see within 45 minutes. Put over 900 miles on the car just in the UP.

About 12-15 years ago I was dragging a deer out of the woods in Schoolcraft County. It was a good half mile to get to the old Haywire grade, and I'd pull a hundred yards, take a break and on and on. Finally got to the grade and did a pull and looked back and had this exact picture, black wolf standing just like that, in the snow, looking at me just like that where I had come out of the woods. I don't know how far he tailed me, but he was certainly interested in where my buck was going. After a few seconds he turned around and was gone. I have absolutely no fear of wolves out there. I've seen a few and seen their sign everywhere. I have even howled with them one night coming out of the woods. Never an instance of feeling danger from them.

The Hiawatha at large: the most intimidating swamp I’ve never hiked through. Look at an aerial view of this thing on google maps: see any roads? Not really. Look at terrain view: not many high points. That’s because it’s mostly woodland swamp. I suspect though, if one were to make it a point to target those high points, it would make for some truly epic wilderness views.

Had mostly great times and a couple not-so-great ones up there, back in my younger days. Like the time we went berry picking in a marsh off of the Island Lake campground. I tripped on a beehive and got stung a half-dozen times by yellow jackets! But overall I love it up there. One time we were fishing Moccasin Lake and out of nowhere a whirlwind arose and sprayed us all with lake water it had picked up. Memories like that, you don't forget! But that area was great for camping and a home base for day trips. Maybe exaggerating but Dad seemed to know every 2-track to every little lake. He had a curious gene and wanted to scout everything.
