Saugeen
Range Southampton Lights
In
the small coastal town of Southhampton on the Saugeen River stand three
small, unmanned range lights guiding vessels safely in and out of the
harbor here. The front range light originally consisted of a lantern attached
to a crib at the river's mouth, and today is marked by a square tapered
building, electrically operated and mounted at the end of the pier. The
back range light, now automated, sits upriver, about 2300 feet from its
sister light. Small in structure, the light sits on a hill 61 feet above
sea level, where it stands as a symbol of Southhampton.
