The Forty Mile Lighthouse was erected in 1897 to fill the dangerous 50 mile gap in navigational lights between Cheboygan and the Presque Isle Lighthouse. While the light is no longer in use, it has been well preserved as part of Lighthouse Park, in Rogers City. Painted white, the three story brick tower is topped by an octagonal black cast iron lantern housing a fourth-order Fresnel lens. A pair of gables flank the tower on the reddish brown lighthouse keeper's quarters, adding an interesting touch. The station also features a well-preserved brick oil house and fog signal building.

On the beach below the lighthouse is the rotting hulk of the Joseph S. Fay, a wooden freighter wrecked there in October of 1905.

Directions: About six miles north of Rogers City on US-23 you will see a sign directing you to Presque Isle County Lighthouse Park. Turn right onto this unmarked road and follow it to the lighthouse. (Do not take Forty Mile Point Road.)
