Cape
Croker
Somewhat
resembling a giant torch, the Cape Croker Lighthouse marks the northern
shore of Colpoy's Bay, found along the east side of Ontario's Bruce Peninsula.
While its tower couldn't be more different, the lantern atop of the fifty-three
foot octagonal tower is similar to those atop of the magnificent Imperial
Towers. It contains a powerful, third order Fresnel clamshell lens and
displays a flashing green light for more than 15 miles into the Georgian
Bay. The tower itself is no wider than the lens and is almost pedestal-like.
Though not open for tours, it may be photographed.
Directions:
To find the lighthouse, follow Highway 6 near Wiarton, then follow County
Road 9 and then County Road 18 for ten miles. Turn right onto the road
to Cape Croker Park. Ahead of you lies 16 miles of winding unmarked
road to the lighthouse. |
